when everything else fails

Footprints

the wonder in your eyes that fine day
imprinting our feet a warm long trail
on a beach one sunset one wonderful may
holding tight and lost from a blowing misty gale

the mischief in your eyes when you softly whispered
those sweet words they still vibrates the smallest bones in me
softly throbs a place in me where a cherub’s arrow entered
we let waves poke our toes a game we played with the sea

. . .

today i walk this beach alone and cloaked for the lack of you
but every feeling of your warmth lay within me enshrined
this beach feels ever the same but lingers the lack of you
memories of our time together still runs fresh in my mind

oh see i cannot find our footprint trial by the sea
so magical in my memories they seemed to be
and this sea ever playful has run silent with shame
i know it did rub off our footprints it is to blame

Feeling Lighter

finally i will fly
i can touch for real
this blue sky
this feeling overwhelms
as i lay suspended
in limbo

emotions and memories
from a not so distant past
broken hearts and empty bottles
all those heavy worries
and forever saying sorries
blurs away when i close my eyes
this blue sky i float
lightens my sorrow
fades away my sorrow
this dream i dream
leaves no tomorrow
to wake up again
my dream will forever last
no more pain to bury
no more deviations from sober
this limbo takes me over

finally i will not fall
i can touch for real
this blue sky
this feeling overwhelms
sorrows shall disappear fast
my dream will forever last

Pantoum: My Lover Sailed Away

smiling he waves from further away
in a ship sailing on sapphire waters
with tears my suffering eyes gives way
beat by beat my heart painfully falters

in a ship sailing on sapphire waters
they all went hunting for gold in new lands
beat by beat my heart painfully falters
i fear he lost his heart on foreign sands

they all went hunting for gold in new lands
he promised fruits from an emerald field
i fear he lost his heart on foreign sands
he is gone for long fear he lost his shield

he promised fruits from an emerald field
i wanted not treasure but his silken touch
he is gone for long fear he lost his shield
fear he met his demise oh i miss so much

i wanted not treasure but his silken touch
but only got wind caressing me these cold nights
fear he met his demise oh i miss so much
ever my pained cloudy eyes see ghostly sights

but only got wind caressing me these cold nights
sleepless in solitude as midnight wane
ever my pained cloudy eyes see ghostly sights
now over the hill i see his floating pale frame

sleepless in solitude as midnight wane
with tears my suffering eyes gives way
now over the hill i see his floating pale frame
smiling he waves from further away

this is my second attempt at the pantoum form, which i think is a great but challenging way for storytelling. ever since i read about it at dVerse – Poets Pub, i’ve been in love with it.

Sweet Embrace

in the rain

let worlds melt in pattering drops
yet aches these two pounding hearts
may the pain for once blur away
in these soothing heavenly tears

just for one final moment
all memories of yesterdays
let them fade away
let them please give way

just for one final embrace
before reality shatters
our castles of sand
and tears us apart

as a tsunami wave
time shall finally come
when worlds shall make us part
with eyes raining tears we depart

The Message

tired thoughts drifting abound
racing home
body stay still lay bound
left alone
among thousands around

blending into black and white
they live their dreams of tonight
blending into this background
those thousands fade away

a text message
a single line to my phone
blurs my world around
leaves me spinning
in a vortex
of my make

Tainted Land

apocalypse

blue is the color
of this frozen land
born out of ancient
fallacy of man

crimson is the color
of blood lust defiled skies
swallowing dust and ash
are these cancerous clouds

unopened flowers wither lay frozen
petals petrified in staring gazes
winter gales reign as the chosen
over icy remains of charred wood
this tainted land stay barren
soiled by subtle remains
of deeds better left unsaid
this tainted land shiver frozen
in shame hides her naked frame
covered in a shroud of ashen ice
the final shreds of a forgotten
heaven falls down from the skies
tearing apart wings fate dies
leaving shattered feathers
floating in icy waters

this land aches abandoned
by mankind dead by own hand
when grayness takes over
falls silent this grieving land

Fragile People

stained glass

do you know why
we hold our wine in glass
transparent and open to see
while we sip gracefully

so we will admire the crimson liquid
the sweet blood we drained
from our mother the earth
her blood our wine we are blessed

why do we plant our flowers
in houses of glassy make
let grapevines do the embrace of lovers
open for all to see

so everyone will admire the love
written in every petal and embrace
so we can see the wildest of nature
thrive in our ever changing world

do we ever imagine we are glass people
with hearts of glass so fragile
we live in shining glasshouses
flowing open for everyone to see

so we will forever
get open love we ever crave
and handled with the care
fragile things deserve
